Sadly, on the 28th of April Seven Barrows stables and Nicky Henderson confirms the tragic death of a superstar, Shishkin. The multiple Grade 1 winner tragically got cast in his stable and broke his hind leg the day before he was gonna leave for Ireland and the Punchestown Festival.
Tragically we've lost Shishkin this evening after he got cast in his stable and fractured his hind leg. - Nicky Henderson on X
The six-time Grade 1 winner and dual Cheltenham Festival and the winner of a staggering £798,668 in prize money was a fan favourite chaser and at the age of 10 still looked to retain all his ability when picking up this year's Betfair Denman Chase (Grade 2) at Newbury. After missing the Cheltenham Festival after the issues with the Henderson yard this was a perfect victory for his owners and Nicky and everyone at Seven Barrows after a tough season.
Everyone involved with Seven Barrows, particularly his owners, Joe and Marie Donnelly, Jaydon (Lee, Shishkin's groom) Nico De Boinville and George (Daly, Henderson's assistant) are obviously devastated that such a great horse friend and warrior is gone. - Henderson on X
Shishkin's CV said it all he won 14 out of 21 starts including 6 Grade ones, 4 Grade twos including the Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle in 2020, the 2021 Arkle Challenge Trophy, the Grade 1 Doom Bar Maghull Chase at Aintree in 2021, the 2022 Clarence House Chase at Ascot, the Betfair Ascot Chase in 2023 by 16 lengths and his final Grade 1 was the Alder Hey Aintree Bowl Chase at Aintree in April 2023. This gelded son of Sholokhov was a fan favourite who will be sadly missed.
Everyone at Regal Racing wishes our condolences to everyone involved with this wonderful Grade 1 winning horse. Very sad loss for racing and the community.
